Dear Chapman Hill Families,
We are so excited to welcome your children back to our building in-person, five days a week!
We are looking forward to a school year that feels a bit more “normal,” although the world still looks and feels quite different these days. As you have likely heard, face coverings will continue to be required indoors for all students, staff, and volunteers per Oregon Department of Education (ODE). We will continue to follow other safety protocols, including physical distancing, handwashing and sanitization, and frequent cleaning.
We would like to invite you to drop in during our Open House event on Tuesday, September 7 between 4:00-5:30pm. We ask that families enter through exterior classroom doors to avoid large clusters of people in the school. If you have multiple students, you will walk around to each exterior classroom door (if we have rain, we will revise the plan). We will have staff invite you into classrooms as space is available in order to maintain social distancing. This event is a great opportunity for students in all grades to bring school supplies to drop off in their classroom and meet your student’s teacher. The school supply list can be found on the Chapman Hill school website. https://chapmanhill.salkeiz.k12.or.us/
Bell times will be different this year. Class will begin at 7:50 AM and dismiss at 2:20 PM. Students may arrive beginning at 7:40; please keep in mind that there will not be supervision before that time. On Wednesdays school begins one hour later, so students may arrive beginning at 8:40 and classes will begin at 8:50. Wednesday dismissal time will remain 2:20pm. If you are in need of before or after school care, you may consider contacting Champions at (discoverchampions.com) who contracts with the school district to provide care on-site before and after school. All students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch again this year.
At this point we are planning for students to enter and exit school via their classroom exterior doors like we did last year; we will communicate with you if this changes. Bus riders will be dropped off as usual in the lower parking lot where staff will be there to greet them. If you are bus eligible, bus route information will be mailed out to you by our transportation department. If your students will be picked up by car, we ask that you please pick up a visor sign at Open House or during the first week of school. If you lose your visor sign or need to make an additional one, we ask that your student’s first name, last initial, and teacher name/grade are written in large lettering on this sign. Using these signs helps us to expedite the loading process and helps with a smooth dismissal for all.
I want to share a few updates and welcome some new staff to Chapman Hill:
Diana Wanek will return to co-teach PE half-time
Lauren Jensen will return as our School-Based Health Assistant
Berit Valdez will join the ERC, replacing Theresa Sturges who took a job in Silverton
Wayne Marshall, previously with EDGE, will also be joining the ERC this year
We are hiring a teacher to replace Ms. Robinson, who is teaching at Salem Academy
Jennifer Osborn is our new counselor, replacing Ms. Harder, who moved to Georgia
Mandy Breitenstein will not be teaching kindergarten this year and we are hiring a new co-teacher for Mrs. Elliott.
We hope one day soon to invite volunteers back into the school. This is a great time of year to complete your background check (https://salkeiz.k12.or.us/volunteering/) and make sure you have access to your ParentVUE account and your information is current. Class lists will be finalized and posted near the front doors September 3rd, or you can view your child’s teacher in ParentVue that day. If you need any assistance with your ParentVue account, please do not hesitate to call the Chapman Hill office (503-399-3195) and we will be happy to assist you.
Looking forward to seeing you!
Warmly,
Rachael Harms
