Sept 28 homework letter

Hello families,

Please see the attached letter for homework information.

Sept 28, 2018

Dear parents,

This year at Chapman Hill we are continuing with limited homework.  If your child does not complete classwork, it will come home for them to complete. Please check your child’s backpack each day for any unfinished classwork.

There is still an expectation that each child will read at home. Additionally, students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are expected to practice their math facts. Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 may bring home projects, but there will be communication regarding any projects prior to them coming home.   Beyond that, we encourage you to spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success: eat dinner as a family, play outside, and get your child to bed early.

Homework expectations by grade level:

All grades – read each evening for at least 15 minutes.

Kindergarten – daily literacy folder

1st grade – take home reading bags (starting in October)

2nd grade – one math page per week and practice +/- math facts within 20

3rd grade – cursive writing practice, math as needed

4th grade – work on math facts, project-based learning.

5th grade – work on math facts 10 minutes nightly, complete math practices pages 1-3 times per week and read at least 100-120 minutes each week. Note that we do not expect math homework to take any longer than 30 minutes (NOT including reading).

Thank you,

Chapman Hill Cheetah Team
